Apprenticeship Ambassadors Network Issue
Welcome

A word from Sir Roy

Welcome to Issue 7 of our Network’s newsletter.

The Apprenticeship Ambassadors Network includes senior representatives from FTSE100/250 companies, small and medium enterprises, and representatives from the public sector and key stakeholders. Our remit is to promote Apprenticeships to employers and to advise Government, the LSC and National Apprenticeship Service on issues that prevent or discourage employers from getting involved.

The aims of our newsletter are to:

  • Highlight the benefits of Apprenticeships,
  • Provide an update on our achievements,
  • Advise on developments within Apprenticeships,
  • Provide a forum for discussion.

As you will see, once again there have been major developments and changes in the funding and delivery of Apprenticeships, namely the launch of the National Apprenticeship Service and the creation of an online matching system. This should make it much easier for employers to find potential apprentices.

Every day we read about redundancies and firm closures in this recession and the good news is that the Government is continuing to support Apprenticeships.

Many businesses are feeling the impact in some way or other, some more severely than others. But we must not buckle under the pressures we face. If we use this time to invest in our people, in training and development, we will emerge from this recession with skilled workforces that are ready and keen to compete globally and locally in a new economy.

Apprenticeships are the way forward – we have just conducted some major research which looked at the net return of investment in training apprentices. This makes the business case even more compelling. Our research shows that some employers see a return on their investment in as little as six months. For more information click here.

As ever, we are keen to hear your comments and I’ve posted a question in the Discussion Forum seeking your views on the new vacancy matching service to see if any of you have used it and if so how you found it.

Please do continue to spread the message by circulating this newsletter to at least one other colleague using the recommend a colleague facility.
